REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FIREARMS SAFETY AWARENESS COUNCIL (PREVIOUS ORGANISATION) The RSPCA reports that 96% of kangaroos commercially culled are shot humanely. Congratulations to all professional kangaroo trappers in NSW for the achievement of this impressive industry standard. Secondly, congratulations to both the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW Firearms Safety Awareness Council for the facilitation of this achievement. The Firearms Safety Awareness Council continues this important training and accreditation role as part of its expanding community and industry role in firearms training. The Firearms Safety Awareness Council has concluded eleven successful years of operation. The Firearms Safety Awareness Officer network now stands at some 2000 officers throughout the State with over 500 participating clubs. The achievements of testing officers and their supporting clubs during the year are commendable and will be acknowledged this year with a cash grant in addition to the money already earned through the completion of testing. I am certain that. our message of firearm safety is well known throughout the State. Accidents and injuries within the sport are rare and the Council is proud to report that in excess of $5m has been generated for all shooting clubs that participate in the scheme. The Council is especially pleased to have been able to support our Manchester Commonwealth Games Team through the NSW Shooting Association with a direct cash grant to each NSW based team member. I send my very best wishes to the staff of the Council and to all Safety Officers and extend the gratitude of the Council for a job well done.
