WHAT
IS THE FSTC
The Firearm
Safety and Training Council Ltd is a subsidiary company of the NSW
Shooting Association Ltd. The Council is also a public company and
its board includes directors appointed by the
NSW Shooting Association and other experienced individuals who have business
skills and the time to devote to its operations.
The Council
was established in 1991 as the NSW Firearms Safety Awareness Council Ltd.
It was part of the contractual agreement between the government and the
NSW Shooting Association for the purpose of administering and conducting
the government's firearm safety awareness scheme. It also acted as an
independent trustee for the funds associated with the scheme. The scheme,
which is run, at no cost to government, has injected over $4m into the
sport of shooting since its inception.
The NSW Firearms
Safety Awareness Council Ltd was reincorporated in 2003 as the Firearm
Safety and Training Council Ltd.
The new Council has the sole responsibility for the conduct of the firearm
safety awareness scheme in accordance with current firearms legislation.
It has run successfully since 1 July 1991 and has a network throughout
NSW of over 500 clubs and 2000 firearm safety officers accredited by the
Police.
The Council,
in its legislated role, has expanded its safety training scheme to a large
number of firearm usages with outstanding results.
Those who
are currently trained and accredited by the Council include Professional
Kangaroo Trappers, National Parks and Wildlife Service Officers, Pest
Control Officers, Airport Control Staff for Sydney Airport, Range Officers
for sporting clubs, the Air Training Corps of NSW and abattoirs and meat
producing industries.
